Puss in Boots – One upon a time…
Puss in Boots, adapted from Charles Perrault’s classic fairy tale, is an intimate, handcrafted puppet theatre performance set within an old suitcase. This reimagined version focuses on the quiet bravery, cleverness, and honest heart of its hero, while giving special emphasis to the ogre, traditionally appearing only at the end of the story, whose looming presence is woven throughout the show to build suspense and anticipation.
Through puppetry, live storytelling, and enchanting music, the performance invites its audience into a humorous, poetic, and imaginative journey.
The show is interactive, with the performer regularly engaging with the children, inviting their participation, asking them questions, and encouraging them to help guide Puss along his adventure. This direct connection creates a playful, warm atmosphere and keeps the audience fully involved throughout the show.
The suitcase is both a stage and a living narrative device. Hand-built by Pierre, it contains surprising playful elements that he uses as the storyteller to draw the audience in and engage with them. When the backdrop changes, Pierre playfully evokes ‘oooohs’ and ‘ahhhhs’ from the audience. He prepares the scene for a dramatic lighting change, brought about by his small, hand built tin can lights. And when the Ogre and Puss chase each other, the audience is encouraged to call out, ‘this way!’ and ‘that way’ as the race around the set.
The result is a fun and charming performance that blends tradition with a personal, contemporary approach.
